Shira Plateau Day Hike

You will be picked up early from Moshi or nearby accommodations and driven to the western slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, where the Shira Plateau trail begins. You will start a moderate hike across the expansive plateau, taking in dramatic cliffs, volcanic rock formations, and alpine meadows. Along the way, your guide will share insights about the plateau’s unique ecosystem, endemic plants, and the geological history of Kilimanjaro. You will have plenty of stops to take photographs, enjoy the panoramic views, and observe occasional wildlife, including birds and small mammals.

Midway through the hike, you will pause to rest, enjoy refreshments, and soak in the serene environment of the plateau. The trail continues across gentle slopes and open plains, offering unobstructed views of the mountain’s western cliffs and surrounding valleys. After completing the loop or designated day trail, you will return to the trailhead, where a traditional packed lunch or refreshments can be enjoyed.
